The real taste of Austria

After almost 2 years of being in Austria I have never tried the Leberkas Semmel.
But then after the START conference, Rosi , Sabine and me had to catch our train to Innsbruck, and I was so hungry so I took the challenge. And after trying the Laberkas my comment is that it tastes like salami... but Ill try it again, so I can change my oppinion.

Better than sex ... !?

Hey guys, guess what. Imagine it’s a warm and sunny Sunday morning (16.07.2006) and I’m getting up at 08.00 a.m. “Why?” you might ask yourself, “Why is Benni getting up so early? Why doesn’t he enjoy his holidays and stay in bed?” Well… there’s a reason :-)

The reason is simple: Last year I got a gift coupon, and last Sunday I wanted to convert it. Together with my parents I went to Hohenems airport to do so. After filling in the question form, Robert asked me to think about one more question before we start. He asked me to tell him afterwards if our activity was better than sex. Then he gave me the suit, packed his backpack and we were ready.

Sitting in a small plane full with about 25 people flying higher and higher was great. Eventough it was just 09.30 the sun was shining bright and warm. And as there was not one single cloud in the sky I was able to see not only big parts of Vorarlberg but as well whole Liechtenstein and parts of Switzerland. The mountains, the green grass down there on the ground, Lake Constance,…. it was amazing.

Reaching 4.300 m above sea level Robert tied our bodies together and one final time I got my instructions: “Form a hollow back, lay your head on my shoulder and put your legs outside the plane!” One last view at the other people in the plane and then……… with an elegant double back flip, we jumped out of the plane.

F
alling down, weightless, for 1 whole minute, 60 seconds long, was amazing. Wind is blowing into your face heavily while earth is coming closer and closer so fast. The pressure on your ears is hurting harder and harder and then, finally, it’s like you are standing still in the air when the parachute is opening. For another 5 minutes you can enjoy the wonderful view while you are gently hovering down to the ground. That was as long as Robert had the control gears of the parachute in his hand. :-) Handing them over to me, I fast found out how to make things more exciting before we were landing at Hohenems airport again.

Guys, tandem parachuting is … it’s…. Well try it out yourself and you’ll find out. Then you can tell me if it’s better than sex :-)

LC Innsbruck - Cricket Time!!

From Jamaica to the world,

It's just love,
It's just love,
Yeah!...and this time it’s the Cricket World Cup 2007 which starts in
Jamaica in March 2007.

After all the excitement experienced recently for the FIFA World Cup and having found out that the Cricket World Cup takes place next year, I thought of giving AIESEC Innsbruck my quick impressions into the world of cricket. Why to be ignorant right?..so read and enjoy :)

That’s how the main pitch of a cricket ground looks like:

Cricket is a sport with ‘N’ number of jargons (like AIESEC..hehe) and to name a few; bowled, ducked, hat trick, full toss, Howzat! etc. However, once you are familiar with these terms the sport is surely one of immense exquisiteness and depth. There’s no doubt that you are going to improve your English vocabulary if you get into this sport.

Countries participating are England, Scotland, Ireland, West Indies, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa, Pakistan, Bangladesh, India, UAE, Canada and the Netherlands. 16 countries play the world cup, and the tough (meaning good) teams are Australia and South Africa, however, let’s see who makes it to the top .

There’s quite a bit of mathematics involved in this sport. You will come across calculations of the run rate, the batting average and what I normally calculated, were the number of ‘overs’ left and runs to made etc. :| afterall, I didn't require a calculator for that :D

Patience is a virtue…we know that through our AIESEC role call right? Watching cricket you will actually have the possibility to test your patience; after all, a match lasts for a whole day with the excitement growing every minute ;)

Just like the goal keepers in football, cricket has wicket keepers and there are always professional discussions around them, you know what I mean. Finally, meet ‘Mello’ the official mascot for the West Indies Cricket World Cup 2007.

MC Take-over

I spent my weekend in Vienna, where the MC organized the take-over party. LC Innsbruck representatives were Max, Christian Putz and me.

I took the 5 o’clock train from Innsbruck and after few hours of ride, I arrived to Mr Eloy Anello's lecture “Responsible leadership and its conceptual framework in a world that is in transition” which was pretty impressive.
After the fabulous lecture, we all went to Donau Island to challenge the MC… That was I suppose the initial idea, but at the end we got challenged by the MC with different AIESEC related Questions (e.g. how many fish in the aquarium survived the former MC- only 1 btw.). If we gave the wrong answer we got punished (you’ll see the pictures as soon as I get them from Max).

And then there was the soccer game… And guess what.. MC lost

And after that, the take over party took place…which lasted until about 7-8 in the morning (including the breakfast)… I hope that the next MiSi you will see the videos, how did the old MC challenge the new MC.

All in all, it was a great day + night and we are looking forward to many more with our new MC!

~Sonja~

P.S. At the same time the Rainbow festival took place, so we went to see it all… and it was a new and shocking experience for me, I must say...
